Description; Mgahinga Forest is recognized for a wide variety of activities, from gorilla trekking, volcano hikes and golden monkey visitations. You have a choice with this itinerary, to choose between activities.

Itinerary

DAY 1 | TRANSFER TO BWINDI NP | MEAL PLAN: HB

Early morning drive to Bwindi Impenetrable forest in south western Uganda, with lunch en-route. You will have several photography stops where necessary. The 9 hour drive goes through rural and urban-like towns, mostly small with local’s going on about their business. Along the way is Kabale – branded as the Switzerland of Africa thanks to being draped in meandering roads, rolling fields and valleys. The landscape scenery is magnificent hence refreshing to the eye.

The day ends with dinner and overnight at a comfortable lodge/camp.

DAY 2 | GORILLA TREKKING | MEAL PLAN: HB

This is the day of the gorilla trek. You will head to the starting point, which is the park headquarters for a briefing before starting the trek. In the briefing, you will be informed about the gorilla dos & don’ts, how to behave when you meet the gentle giants and also finally be divided into small groups of 8 people. Guests will be assigned rangers and armed guards who will identify various plants, birds, wildlife and the general eco-system.

Trekking may take between two and eight hours - depending on where the gorillas have wandered off but it’s well worth the sweat. Once you find these gentle giants you are allowed one hour with them.

The second day ends with dinner and an overnight at the lodge/camp.

DAY 3 | VOLCANOE HIKE IN MGAHINGA | MEAL PLAN: HB

On this day we will have an early transfer to Mgahinga Forest, the smallest park in Uganda that protects the mountain ranges of Mt. Sabinyo, Mt. Muhavura and Mt. Gahinga and also is another home for mountain gorillas. This park is diverse with various activities but today we will have a guided day hike of Mount Gahinga- the easier of the three volcanoes or the least demanding for that matter.

Additionally taking this hike offers a good chance of viewing golden monkeys, and various forest birds in the bamboo zone while duikers, bushbuck inhabit the marshy crater at the peak.

The second day ends with dinner and an overnight at the lodge/camp

DAY 4 | DEPARTURE | MEAL PLAN: BB

After breakfast, proceed to Entebbe having a stop to look at the Royal Drum makers, the Equator - where you will stand on both hemispheres at once. The rest of the drive will take you to Entebbe International Airport for your flight to your next destination. Or back home.
