Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary

Ziwa Rhino sanctuary sits on a 70km² land and is home to approximately 32 white rhinos. The sanctuary was started in an effort to re-introduce white rhinos in the National Parks. As a result of poaching, there are no rhinos in the wilderness in Uganda, except at the sanctuary. This project was started by Rhino Fund Uganda in conjunction with Uganda Wildlife Authority with the hope that when the population reaches 50+, the re-introduction will then start.

The sanctuary has become popular to tourists, both local and foreign for several extra activities like shoebill trek and canoe riding, night nature walks, bird watching and voluntary-tourism activities.
